Nintendo Switch Now the Fastest-Selling Home Console in US History

Following arguably Nintendo's best year of the decade so far, the company announced on Thursday morning that the Switch has become the fastest-selling game console in U.S. history.

Now, with some 4.8 million sales in the USA alone, the Switch has surpassed 10-month sales records set by the previous record holder, the Wii, which managed 4 million units over the same time period. Nintendo (NTDOY) has sold at least 10 million units over the past 9 months.

To get a closer look at what you can expect from the game, check out its Switch trailer below! Nintendo Switch sales in 2018 are forecasted around 20 million units bringing the level to 37 million by April of next year. This has made the Switch the fastest selling home console in the country, surpassing the Wii, which previously held the title.

According to Nintendo's latest figures, more than half of current Switch owners have purchased Super Mario Odyssey.

Adding to Nintendo's ideal storm for the Switch launch was a very strong - albeit fairly limited day one - titles including: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild; Super Mario Odyssey; Mario Kart 8; Splatoon 2; Minecraft; Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim; FIFA 2018; Just Dance 2018; and L.A. Noire. The company says that a strong library of games continues to fuel momentum for the console.

The Nintendo Switch so far has over 300 games created by third-party developers, while 2018 will see Nintendo-published titles such as Kirby Star Allies, Bayonetta, Bayonetta 2 and "a new game starring Yoshi".

There is also a big rumor floating around that Rockstar is considering putting GTA V on the Switch. Part of the success of the Switch's first year has been the software. If not, do you plan on picking one up?

Also remember that the Switch uses microSD cards for expandable storage, and USB-C for power - there are loads of great offers on memory cards and portable power banks, so we'd definitely recommend looking now if you're thinking of expanding your storage or grabbing a battery pack.
