Kyrie Irving Will Eventually Need Minor Knee Surgery

Obviously, the notion that Irving referenced "a HIPAA violation" is amusing, but his overall point was clear in that he pushed back on the report. According to Cleveland.com, Boston Celtics Point Guard and NBA All-Star Kyrie Irving according to sources needs minor knee surgery to follow up a previous surgery he had after the 2015 NBA Finals when Irving broke his kneecap in Game 1.

After playing for the Cavaliers for six seasons, Irving was exhausted of living in LeBron James' shadow and the Cavaliers' culture that circulated around the King.

James reportedly asked the Cavaliers' front office not to honor Irving's trade request.

Neither Gilbert or Irving's representatives have commented on these reports, but if true, it could have been a deciding factor as to why Cleveland finally gave in and traded Kyrie to the Celtics in exchange for Isaiah Thomas, Jae Crowder, Ante Zizic and the Brooklyn Nets' 2018 first-round pick.

"[Irving] basically just let me know that that was the direction that he wanted to go in", James said in September. Irving has missed three games this season - one for a facial fracture, one for a quad contusion, and one for a shoulder issue. Apparently this threat forced the Cavs into making a deal.

Along with James and Irving teaming up again for the 2018 NBA All-Star Game, their third and final regular season matchup takes place on February 11 in Boston. They now sit atop the Eastern Conference at 35-14.

A new report revealed that Kyrie Irving threatened to get knee surgery if the Cavaliers did not trade him during the offseason. "[James] has made it no secret in recent weeks that he felt Irving shouldn't have been traded", Vardon reported.

The Cavaliers will host the Pacers, who are just two games behind Cleveland in the Eastern Conference standings, Friday night.
