Everton in talks to sign Arsenal's Walcott

If that's possible to get over the line then I'd be delighted. We have a good relationship still because I don't want him to be frustrated and not go to the world Cup.

Everton are reportedly battling with Southampton for Walcott's signature and it is understood the Gunners may consider letting the England global leave during the January transfer window.

"I think you are all aware of our interest in Theo", Allardyce told a news conference.

Allardyce has now all but confirmed his interest in Walcott after admitting negotiations with Arsenal to sign the forward on permanent basis are ongoing.

The decision suggested that Walcott will not get more minutes at Arsenal any time soon and he now looks set to leave. While many feel he hasn't lived up to expectations after predictions of big things upon his arrival from Southampton, he has nonetheless carved out a solid career with Arsenal, making 269 appearances for the club, scoring 65 goals. To add power in our goalscoring ability would be very important, if we can negotiate that transfer.

Asked about Allardyce's comments, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said: "I can not tell you much more". (The deal) is permanent, I don't think there's any chance of a loan.

"It is essential that we trim the squad down if we are to bring more players in to adjust the balance of the squad".

When asked about Malcom, Wenger said: "He is a good player but nothing is happening".

Wenger dismissed suggestions that Bordeaux's Brazilian forward Malcom has been lined up by Arsenal to replace Sanchez.

"Because Arsenal have got to find what we are losing at the moment".
