Come clean on PDP MLA's 'militants are martyrs' remark:Congress to BJP

MLA Aijaz Ahmad Mir on Thursday said that deaths of militants in Jammu and Kashmir should not be celebrated as they are sons of the same land.

Aijaz sympathised with the security personnel killed in the state, saying, "We feel sad when our security forces are martyred as well".

While talking in Assembly, Aijaz said that those who die in Kashmir day in and out are Kashmiris and are brothers, so it is responsibility of everyone in this house to ensure that the youth of Kashmir, be that militant or protester should be saved from being killed.

"I believe militants are residents of Jammu and Kashmir", Aijaz Ahmad Mir, PDP MLA from Wachi, Shopian, said.

MLA stirred a controversy after he stated that people should not be celebrating the killing of Kashmiri militants. "It is our collective failure", he said, adding that they are children, who have gone down the wrong track, and should be counselled and brought back. He said that the government should sympathise with families of terrorists as well as security forces.

"If we do no believe in the Constitution of J&K or of the nation, then what would you achieve".

Mir's statements came in for flak from the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) - a PDP ally - as well as Opposition National Conference (NC). If a sitting legislator has said it, it certainly calls for an enquiry, he added.

"Terrorists and separatists are enemies of Kashmiris, Kashmir, development and peace". These are questions the BJP and PDP need to answer.

Nowshera BJP MLA Ravinder Raina demanded that Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti penalise her party's lawmaker for his "sensational statement".

In Delhi, BJP Union minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said militants and separatists could not be brothers.

If everyone who reads our reporting, helps to support it, our future would be much more secure and we will be able to keep our and your perspective going. "How can they be someone's brother", he told a news channel.

"There can be ideological clashes between them and us".
