A Player's Preview: Oregon State

With Oregon State leading 26-25, strong UA defense on the perimeter forced OSU's Stephen Thompson throw an errant ball into the post that Ayton easily picked off. The game will be televised on Pac-12 Network.

The trio came up big in the Beavers' 76-64 win over in-state rival OR on January 5, with Tinkle scoring a game-high 19 points, while Thompson scored 16 and Eubanks added 15.

The Beavers have won only once at McKale Center since the teams started playing each other in 1975-76 and became Pac-10 competitors three seasons later, with the lone win against Sean Miller's first Arizona team in 2009-10.

The No. 11 Arizona State Sun Devils (13-2) are coming from an 80-77 win over Utah in which Shannon Evans II scored 22 points in 5-for-12 shooting from the field and 7-for-8 from the free throw line.

Ayton grabbed 10 rebounds and Arizona's Dusan Ristic had eight points and eight rebounds.

The Wildcats started the game 0-4 from deep and let Oregon State take a 9-2 lead by the first media timeout. Similar to that ranking, Oregon State trails only Florida.

Arizona finally got the lead with six straight points, including a breakaway dunk by Trier and a spinning reverse dunk by Alkins, both baskets off turnovers, and the Wildcats led with 16:30 to play. Neither team scored in the final three minutes of the half, and the Beavers did not score in the final 5 1/2 minutes.

UA shot only 37.5 percent overall and made just 2 of 11 3-pointers while turning the ball over nine times.

Allerik Freeman finished with 14 points for the short-handed Wolfpack (12-5, 2-2 Atlantic Coast Conference), who blew almost all of a 12-point lead with less than 90 seconds remaining but held on to claim their second home win over a Top 25 opponent in six nights after knocking off then-No.

Allonzo Trier scored 15 of his game-high 21 points in the second half to lead the Wildcats. Its previous low was 63 in a victory over St. Louis. Tinkle had two 3-pointers during the run, but Arizona battled back through a defensive first half to cut Oregon State's lead to 22-21 at the break. In 35 minutes, Justice added 21 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal and 4 threes with 2 turnovers.
