Undertrial shot at, injured at Rohini court

A 30-year-old undertrial was shot dead from point-blank range near a police post inside the premises of Rohini District Courts here on Monday.

"Khan shot Vinod in the back when the latter was being escorted inside the court complex under police security by the Third Battalion, which is in-charge of escorting undertrials to court from prisons and back. The incident happened near the canteen area while he was being escorted and the shooter, who was arrested at the spot, is suspected to have been dressed as a litigant".

While the Before-mentioned intensity was first listed in December in 2015 when a head constable of Delhi Police was murdered and 3 others hurt following 4 attackers started the fire inside a courtroom at Karkardooma Court Complex in east Delhi.

The accused said that he was hired by someone else to murder the prisoner. When Vinod was being taken back an assailant opened fire on him, injuring him critically. It is also being probed how the man managed to sneak into the court premises with the weapon, the DCP said. The court extended his custody for next 14 days. He had been absconding for the past seven years in a cheating case registered at the south Rohini police station in 2010, over a sale of a plot there.

Vinod was immediately rushed to a nearby government hospital, where he was declared dead.

President of the Rohini Court Bar Association, Mahavir Sharma, claimed they have highlighted the issue to police several times - but in vain.

Such incidents do raise questions on the level of security at the court.

During investigation, it was revealed that Vinod was the resident of Mangolpuri area, whereas Abdul Khan was residing in Nangloi.

Sources said that Khan might have been hired by the businessman who was duped by the deceased.
