Barcelona make Coutinho massive contract offer; Messi unimpressed

The Brazilian midfielder joined the club for just £8.5 million, but has since gone on to develop quite a reputation as one of the finest playmakers the Premier League has to offer - and his performances last season saw him attract attention from Barcelona in the summer, after worldwide team-mate Neymar left the Catalan club.

The La Liga giants made Coutinho their No 1 target after Neymar left for Paris Saint-Germain.

Mundo Deportivo reported earlier this week that Barcelona officials will meet with their Liverpool counterparts before the end of this month to step up the negotiations, with the Catalans set to launch a first offer worth €80m (£71.3m, $94.2m) plus €30m in add-ons to complete the move.

But Moreno has revealed that he spoke with Coutinho and pleaded with him to remain on Merseyside. My relationship with him is the best I can hope for and I always say that he cares about all the players equally, giving the same level of attention to first-team players and reserves.

"I have told him, eh", Moreno told The Guardian.

"I went to see him a few times and he said: "Alberto, you're doing okay but I can" t change the team'".

"But I can't interfere".

In light of intense speculation that Barcelona are ready to mount another assault for his signature, and crumb of comfort that Coutinho can throw our way is much appreciated.

Moreno went on to state how impressed he has been by the impact summer signing Mohamed Salah has had since joining Liverpool. "I am confident now in many areas of the pitch-I don't just attack better, I defend better too". But I've had the opportunity to work with top professionals, real quality players, and under good managers, which has helped me understand the responsibilities of different positions and what each one requires.

Moreno was thought to be on the verge of leaving Anfield during the summer having made only two Premier League starts throughout the entire 2016-17 campaign, finding himself behind makeshift defender James Milner in the pecking order.
